Experience an amazing natural event in Mexico: the Monarch Butterfly Migration! These butterflies have made a long journey to escape the harsh winters in the USA and Canada. Go to the Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, one of the most important monarch reserves in the world! Going on a hike in this fantastic place is a unique opportunity! You will also visit beautiful colonial towns, such as Valle de Bravo in the State of Mexico.

Day 1
Arrival in Mexico City. You will be welcomed by your professional naturalist tour guide. Transfer to Hotel. Once in the hotel, you´ll get a briefing. Your guide likes to tell you more about the activities and security. Besides your guide will tell some fun facts about the Monarch Butterfly tour in Mexico.Day 2
First visit the Anthropology Museum, one of the world’s finest archaeological museums with a huge collection of artifacts in 23 exhibition halls. Its most famous exhibit is the Aztec sunstone, a cosmological calendar. Afterward, we will depart to Valle de Bravo. This magical town surrounded by mountains is considered as the most important tourist destination thanks to its excellent hotels, restaurants, equestrian club, beautiful golf courses, and a man-made lake. Check-in at the Mesón de las Leyendas hotel or similar.Day 3
Visit the Piedra Herrada Sanctuary, This is located on the western slopes of the Nevado de Toluca, so the landscape is made up of high and imposing mountains that exceed 3,000 meters in altitude. In this area, the Monarch Butterfly finds oyameles, it is a tree that provides them with the conditions they need to grow and reproduce.
To access this space you will have to do it on foot or on horseback, guided by local people. For 40 minutes walking through valleys surrounded by forests to discover the resting place of the butterflies, where you can watch them flutter. Overnight in Mesón de las Leyendas hotel or similar.
Day 4
Today we visit the Capulin Sanctuary. Ecotourism lovers will have a masterful experience when visiting the Ejido El Capulín sanctuary, located in the municipality of Donato Guerra 80 kilometers west of Toluca. You will have to travel four kilometers on foot from the El Capulín farmhouse. The walk will be almost imperceptible thanks to the sublime landscape that you will observe in the coniferous forests and the reward will be gratifying when seeing thousands of butterflies flutter around you among oyameles and pines.
In this sanctuary you can see the largest and most beautiful plain in the Monarch region called Los Tres Gobernadores, and due to the position of the access and the hibernation colonies it is possible to observe an impressive transition of the vegetation that is attractive for those who like nature. The distance of the route to get to where the butterfly colonies are can be up to 4 km. Afterward, we go back to the Mesón de las Leyendas hotel or similar.
Day 5
Free day to enjoy the area of Valle de Bravo. Life´s here (literally) built around the lake. The waters of Valle de Bravo are calm and ideal for sports like sailing, water-skiing or kayaking. Enjoy you free afternoon, and pick an activity which you like. Tonight we stay at ¨hotel Mesón de las Leyendas¨, for one more night.Day 6
Early departure back to Mexico City to enjoy a city tour in Mexico City. Overnight in Mexico City.Day 7
The last day of the Monarch Butterfly tour in Mexico. Transfer to the airport for your flight back.
