Ecotourism in Cancun and the Mayan world

We’re glad to share with you that every year, our general director gives a webinar about the attractions to go to the Yucatan Peninsula, such as ecotourism in the Mayan world, ecosystems in the Maya area, its infrastructure and the adventure you can get here. He will also give you some information sustainable tourism, sustainability in Quintana Roo, the protected areas that we have and some conservations projects. After this he will talk a little bit about the company, like the lectures our guides provide when you go on a tour with us, our mission and vision, our different kind of tours and our contribution to the nature. If you’re interested in sustainable tourism, the Yucatan Peninsula, EcoColors or all of them you could join the webinar on Thursday at 2:00 pm ET by using this link: http://www.travelpulse.com/webinars/webinar.html?http://event.on24.com/r.htm?e=1075191&s=1&k=6F890C37F6D5114BFC86E34C0E46F171

One of new seven wonders of the world: Chichen ItzĂĄ!

The Yucatan Peninsula offers many archaeological sites which are known from the Mayan World. The amazing Mayan ruins can be found throughout the area among the Yucatan. The Yucatan’s grandest archaeological site is Chichen-Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage area of immense cultural significance. About 125 kilometers west of CancĂșn and Cozumel, Chichen Itza is perhaps the largest, most famous and most accessible Mayan site. This tourist attraction is a rugged place of soaring pyramids, startling carved columns and massive temples. The name of Chichen Itza means “at the mouth of the well of Itza” The most impressive temple is the Castillo, with its 365 steps, 52 panels and 18 terraces. During the fall and spring, the sun’s shadow forms an enormous snake’s body, which lines up with the carved stone snake head at the bottom of the Castillo pyramid. Across…

My internship at EcoColors

EcoColors Tours, will be happy to support you! One day, a man said that repetition is the root of learning. This a very nice and philosophical phrase but most of the time, when the heart is not involved in the process, the results are far from what we expect. What would you think if we show a fun and different way to learn the basics of a language and simultaneously see the wonders of regions as YucatĂĄn and Quintana Roo part of activities such as snorkeling, swimming sea turtles and whale sharks? Sounds good? Well that’s possible with EcoColors, who gave me the opportunity to join their team during my internship, grow in my field of study and improve my skills in other languages, such as Spanish or English. As for me, I come from France and I’m ready for…

CancĂșn, a wonder of nature

My new favorite place: Parque de las Palapas

Parque de Las Palapas, Cancun. Last weekend I think I found my new favorite place in Cancun; Parque de las Palapas. Friends from Cancun were really shocked when we told them we had not heard of Parque de Las Palapas. So right away they took us there and showed us around. It is in downtown Cancun, and for people who know Cancun it is next to the ADO bus station of Cancun. It is a park with a central square with a big stage. There are small cars for rent for children which makes it a great place to spend a day with the family. Around it are small stands with thatched roofs, where people serve all kinds of delicious food, like crepes with cheese and nutella, and a lot of Mexican food like empanadas and quesadillas. Also you can…

The sun and your holidays

As you know, we should be pretty careful when it comes about the sun and our holidays. Our normal routine probably involves some lotion and in the best cases some solar protection, but let’s face it! We don’t really protect our skin. In order to have an incredible getaway we want to give you some advices about the sun and your holidays: Plenty of water: As long as you stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids apart from what you drink with your meals, you can try with carrot juice (which gives you vitamins A, K, E, potassium, folate, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc), cranberry juice (it has tons of anti-ox) and vegetables like tomatoes (that contains vitamin c and potassium) All this will help your skin to look amazing and don’t forget that you need to drink at least…

The Thrilling White Shark

In the collective imagination, white sharks are just the most dangerous and scary animal on earth. A lot of people even have a fear of water because of them, and it is probably due to all the movies about sharks (such as the numerous Jaws) that traumatized an entire generation. The true fact is that…

Cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula

Cenotes are one of the biggest attractions and thousands of people from all over the world come to the Yucatan PenĂnsula just to swim in those crystal clear waters. But what do we actually know about these natural beauties? What is a cenote? A cenote is a natural phenomenon, a natural pit or sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. This creates a natural pool which is then filled by rain and underground rivers: a cenote is born. Where does the word cenote come from? The word cenote comes from the Mayan word dzonot, which means “sacred well”. The Yucatan peninsula was originally under the ocean and the region’s limestone foundation is fossilized coral beds and ocean floor. There are no above ground rivers in this area. All of the ground water sinks through the…

Holbox: Paradise Island in Mexico

Isla Holbox is a small out-of-the-way Mexican island where you can go back to the days of no cars, beach roads and beautiful sunsets. The island is located west of Cancun in the northeast corner of Quintana Roo, Mexico. One of the most amazing things is that the roads at the island are only travelled by electric golf carts, and the streets are whole sand so you have this rare feeling of being far away, even like traveling in time to the past. Taxi golf carts and rental golf carts are common ways to get around the town, besides bicycles and by feet, so if you want to explore Holbox it will be amazing if you cross the whole island by bike. From CancĂșn it takes 3 hours by bus to get to Chiquila, where you can take the ferry…

Taxonomy & Classification of whale sharks in Cancun

For the next few months we’re going to share some facts about the whale sharks every week with you. In this first episode we’re talking about the taxonomy & classification of the whale sharks! The whale shark may be harmless, but it’s a true shark, because it has a skeleton made from cartilage, that is lighter and more flexible than bone. Its skin is covered in dermal denticles, for parasite repellent and hydronamica and it has several rows of replaceable teeth, very sharp teeth. These features have made sharks very successful animals. They have been dominant species on Earth, pre-dating dinasaurs by 220 million years. Today there are 440 different species of sharks ranging from smallest, the lantern shark, to the largest, the whale shark. Sharks live in many different geographic and vertical habitats and some like the bull shark…

World Environment Day
 Back to basics!

Thinking about the world environment day, I just love to share my thoughts with you
It is well known that the planet earth is going through many changes, excess population on earth, pollution and abuse that man has over nature. I am one of those sensitive people who can feel the change in the sunlight with each season and a person who enjoy the smell of the earth, rain, salty sea, May flowers and everything that reminds me for a moment to my childhood. I grew up near the sea and almost every weekend my parents took us to the beach and there was nothing I enjoyed more than the sun on my cheeks during the sunset, that feeling still make me close my eyes and feel the sun on my face, perceiving those pink and gold warm sunsets at…

Yucatan Eco Adventure

Last month I joined EcoColors’ Yucatan Eco Adventure Tour and I am still amazed by everything I got to see and experience on this trip! My friend and I decided to go on this tour since we wanted to discover the nature and archaeological sites of the Yucatan Peninsula in a sustainable way. Therefore, we incorporated it in our travel route through Mexico. On the first day, we arrived at the airport in CancĂșn, where our guide and our driver picked us up and transferred us to our hotel, the Hacienda Puerto Morelos. The next day we had two options to spend the day: snorkeling in a cenote or ATV-driving. Adventurous as we are, we chose ATV-driving. I never drove an ATV before and the route we took went through the jungle, definitely a unique experience for me and my…
