Yucatan Eco Adventure

Last month I joined EcoColors’ Yucatan Eco Adventure Tour and I am still amazed by everything I got to see and experience on this trip! My friend and I decided to go on this tour since we wanted to discover the nature and archaeological sites of the Yucatan Peninsula in a sustainable way. Therefore, we incorporated it in our travel route through Mexico.

On the first day, we arrived at the airport in Cancún, where our guide and our driver picked us up and transferred us to our hotel, the Hacienda Puerto Morelos. The next day we had two options to spend the day: snorkeling in a cenote or ATV-driving. Adventurous as we are, we chose ATV-driving. I never drove an ATV before and the route we took went through the jungle, definitely a unique experience for me and my friend! The awesome activities continued on the third day, when we went to Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. After our guide explained to us the importance of the area, we went kayaking!

Afterwards, we still had time to go hiking in the jungle. During this, we passed by a cenote, where we went snorkeling. I saw cenotes on pictures before, but the beauty of the underground river was one of the most impressive things I saw during the trip.

The next day, we went to Chichén Itzá, another highlight of the trip! Standing in front of the great pyramid, realizing how small you are and how people built this example of architecture in times without any machines or technical help, was a great experience. Afterwards we visited another cenote where we went swimming. Another activity we did the next day was seeing the impressive archaeological sites of Cobá and Tulum.

The last day before our departure, we went to Xcaret, which is a theme park based on nature and archaeological sites. There were many activities we could take part in in the park. We relaxed at the beach, visited the aquarium, the bat cave and the butterfly pavilion, we even saw jaguars! Moreover, there were many archaeological sites as well as a Mayan village, where we could learn a lot about the culture and traditions of the Maya. All these impressions and experiences made the trip unforgettable, and I wish I could turn back time and do all the activities again! Thanks to EcoColors and our guide, who was really helpful and also super funny. We will definitely come back to Mexico soon.
