Now We Children Save the World

Now We Children Save the World Plant-for-the-Planet plants trees and empowers children all over the world The Plant-for-the-Planet children and youth initiative was launched in January 2007. At the end of his school presentation about the current climate crisis, nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner announced his vision to his classmates: “Let’s plant one million trees in every country on earth!” The current goal of the children and youth initiative is to plant a trillion trees worldwide. Trees are the cheapest and most effective means of binding CO2, allowing us more time to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero and mitigate the climate crisis. In 2011, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) handed over the long-established Billion Tree Campaign, along with the official world tree counter, to Plant-for-the-Planet. As the children’s aim is now to plant a trillion trees, they transformed the Billion…

5 Ways How To Help Protect The Ocean Now

The ocean covers more than 70% of our planet´s surface and is home to an immense diversity of life. So, I think it´s needless to say that the ocean is really, really important. We can´t live without our oceans. We need the ocean. Though, right now the ocean really needs us. The ocean is in trouble from effects of climate change, pollution, overfishing and many other issues. We are depleting our oceans and it’s time to make it stop. Of course these issues will require governments and businesses to take action but you can also make a change! Reduce your carbon emissions In the last 50 years, the ocean has absorbed 90% of the globe´s extra heat. This has led to warmer waters, which has a ton of consequences. Some of these consequence include: changes where fish swim, bleaching of…

Help the Whale Sharks by supporting Ch´ooj Ajauil

The waters of Quintana Roo, are full of sea life and there are hundreds of whale sharks during the summer to feed on plankton and fish eggs. The Ch’ooj Ajauil organization recognizes this phenomenon as something really important. That´s why we are proud to say that we are supporting the Ch´ooj Ajauil organisation led by Rafael de la Parra. We are supporting their ´One Dollar Shark Conservation´ project. This project serves as a research and protection program for the whale sharks. Ch´ooj Ajauil has already been able to answer a lot of questions about the whale sharks. For example, they know that the whale sharks come to the Mexican Caribbean to feed. That they are found nearby Isla Mujeres from May to September and that the population includes up to 450 whale sharks. This is the largest gathering of whale…

We are plastic free

Plastic bottle area a big environmental problem. Problem is the quantity, bad use of products derivates from petroleum and natural gas and they are no recycled and if we leave them they could be on the sea to be coming in a big quantity of trash. IT IS NO GOOD FILL THEM Use PET bottle could be good if we can reuse them a couple of times, but Experts says is NO good idea, because bottle water can degrade and release substances to the water that we drink. METAL AND GLASS BOTTLES, OUR ONLY FUTURE POSSIBLE Glass for home, metal for outside. This is our ecologist plan because glass and metal are recycled and we can fill them a lot of times. ADVANTAGES They are recyclables They are durable You can clean them easily You can fill them with whatever…

Transforming the Ecotourism Experience with Kenneth Johnson

My guest this week, Kenneth Johnson, is an American-born Mexican who studied Marine Biology in Mexico City before moving to the Riviera Maya to start his passion project, EcoColors, an eco-travel company dedicated to educating visitors about the amazing wildlife of the area.   Kenneth says he decided on the Mexican Caribbean because it has the second-largest coral reef in the world, amazing jungles, wetlands and, in 1997, about four million visitors. Along with his passion of sharing information, he also wanted to enhance the environmental values with interesting facts about the wildlife, while offering a unique experience to his clients.   He says, if you are swimming with whale sharks, observing snakes dropping from a cave ceiling to eat bats or visiting a Mayan community, you have to have a knowledgeable guide. People are more excited about the wildlife…
